Meetings and Events

The Karori Historical Society meets on the first Tuesday of every quarter with meetings in March, June (AGM), September and December.

Next meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 1 December 2009 at 7.45 pm. The meeting will be in the St Ninian's Hall in Newcombe Crescent. There will be a talk by Dawn Sanders entitled "Hanging about the Globe".

In time for Christmas!

Copies of the book "Terawhiti and the Goldfields" by Jim Brodie will be available at our Christmas meeting at the special price of $29.95. This book would make a great present for friends and relatives!

Last meeting

Our last meeting was on Tuesday 1 September 2009.

Our speaker was the Wellington writer and social historian Redmer Yska. Redmer grew up in Karori in the 1960s and has had a career as a journalist and writer. He has written a number of books including his book Wellington: Biography of a City. During his research for this book, Redmer studied the Minute Books of the Wellington City Council and in his address to the Society he talked about some of the material that was not published in his book. He described the dealilngs of the Wellington Zoo and the dispute between two well-known early residents who both vied for the title of Father of the City.
